What it's like to be a black HR Professional:
Racial inequality is largely unacknowledged. Nervousness, denial, and a lack of vocal role models all contribute to a serious diversity problem that organisations must address.
According to HR Magazine, it discovered that a shocking 60% of black and 42% of Asian people have experienced racism at work (compared to only 14% of white people), with one in five (20%) experiencing verbal or physical abuse.
According to the TUC's Racism Ruins Lives study, 65 percent of BAME workers have experienced workplace harassment in the last five years, while 49 percent have been treated unfairly. Almost two-thirds (62 percent) of black employees said racism at work had a negative impact on their mental health, and 56 percent said it had a negative impact on their work.
We have not, by any means, solved the problem of women's representation, but we can see that it has increased. "As far as I can tell, almost anywhere in the UK, that isn't the case for the race," says Sarah Guerra, director of diversity and inclusion at King's College London.
